Our works do show, however, that we truly believe in Christ and point others to Him. It is important to realize that our justification does not hinge upon these works, though. While we are justified by grace alone through faith alone, we should be compelled to perform good works as a result of our faith. Not everyone believes this, and the different perspectives on justification have caused division, the most well-known one being the Reformation. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast,” (Ephesians 2:8-9, NKJV). Protestant Christians in the Reformed tradition believe that people are saved by grace alone through faith alone.
His work on the cross has brought everlasting life to all who believe in him, because everyone has sinned and needs to be justified by Christ in order to obtain everlasting life. Jesus did this by dying on the cross and taking the punishment for the sins of the world “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23, NJKV). It talks about God the Father send his Son, Jesus, into the world to give us everlasting life. This is a very familiar verse to most people. “’For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes on Him will not perish but have everlasting life,” (John 3:16, NKJV). However, Christians are less knowledgeable about the doctrine of justification and its important distinctions. How are people saved?
